Retreat Descriptions

Primarily it is a time and a place to have extended quiet time with the Lord. It can be as structured or unstructured as you desire. It can be with others, or you can have the time all on your own for personal reflection, prayer and seeking the Lord.

You might have a clear idea of what you want to do during a personal retreat time, or you might be looking for some help and direction for your time at Bethel Retreat House. Maybe you want to come because you need to ‘get away’ from the demands and expectations in your daily life.

Jesus spoke about this, “’….Come away, all of you, to a quiet place, and rest awhile.’ For there were many coming and going, so that they had no time even for meals.” Mark 6:31

Sound familiar? We all need times of refreshing with God.

While some people come to Bethel as part of a small group or to attend a scheduled retreat, many others come as individuals, or possibly as a couple, for a time of spiritual renewal. A personal retreat is very much formed according to what you are feeling a need for.

There is an assortment of small retreat booklets that can guide your time of reflection if you choose. There is a library, board games, bicycles, and walks along the shore.

Individual or Couple Retreat
Retreats for individuals or couples can be from one day to 10 days. It is possible that you are the only one in the retreat residence at the time, or there may be individuals or couples in other rooms. Our general aim is to provide a place of quiet in the common areas, which allows people to read, pray, sleep or simply have a time with as few demands as possible. Most importantly, a private retreat is a time for you to spend with God.

Small Group Retreat
Take some time, two days or longer, to be together as a group. The time with your team or small group may be spent developing relationships with each other and with God. The desire to renew our relationship with Jesus Christ is the same for all retreats, whether a personal retreat or a group retreat – personal renewal of our life with God and others.
